Xylitol is xylitol, right?  WRONG!!!

There are at least six different standards by which xylitol is graded.The highest quality available is produced according to the FCCIV specification, called PHARMACEUTICAL GRADE.

Not all South African suppliers of xylitol are selling pharmaceutical grade xylitol. There is nothing wrong with this in itself - “food grade” is not harmful, but it’s not nearly as beneficial as pharmaceutical grade.

The reason why pharmaceutical grade xylitol is more expensive is because of the additional refining involved in its manufacture. This purification process is incredibly important. With all organically derived foodstuffs, there are always traces of heavy metals like lead, and poisons like mercury and arsenic. These can sometimes be present in potentially harmful concentrations, depending on quantities consumed. Importantly however, allowance is made in “food grade” xylitol for the presence of other sugars. So make sure that you know what you are getting when purchasing your xylitol. You definitely don’t want to be paying good money for inferior grades that have been diluted with other sugar-alcohols like maltitol or  sorbitol. One product in South Africa masquerades as xylitol, but actually contains both Acesulphame K and a bulking agent.

XyloSweet is 100% pure xylitol granules. It is produced through a natural fermentation of xylose extracted from plant fibers. We herewith confirm:

XyloSweet:

• is free from Genetically Modified Organisms and has not been manufactured using raw materials containing any Genetically Modified Organisms or via any process which could lead to contamination with GMO material.
• does not require labeling per EC Regulation Nos. 1829/2003 or 1830/2003.
• does not contain materials of animal origin; XyloSweet is BSE and TSE-free.
• does not contain any preservatives or formaldehyde.
• has not been irradiated nor derived from irradiated raw materials.
• does not contain the allergens identified in EC Directive 2003/89/EC: cereals containing gluten, crustaceans, eggs, fish, peanuts, soybeans, milk, nuts of any kind, celery, mustard, sesame seeds, sulphur dioxide and sulphites.
• does not contain any performance enhancing agents.
• complies fully with the limits for lead set forth in California’s Proposition 65.
